How Does the GigaBlox Mechanics Work?

Since Lucky Neko GigaBlox was the slot in which Yggdrasil debuted the mechanics, let’s take it as an example to explain how the engine works. The engine, of course, was inspired by Splitz, only instead of dividing, GigaBlox is merging symbols to provide bigger wins.

Now, what the feature does is it merges, synchs at least one set of reels on every single spin, and that way, it creates a gigantic block of symbols. As said, these blocks of symbols can appear sized 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4, but what’s more, you can have more than one such giant symbol present on the reels at once!

The payout you get would depend on the size of the symbol, ergo how many spaces of the grid it has taken up. For instance, a block sized 3×3 will cover 6 spaces on the grid, and count as 4 individual symbols when part of a winning combo!

As said, during the bonus rounds, these symbols can be even bigger. Namely, when you trigger the bonus with 5 Scatters, at least in Lucky Neko GigaBlox, you get an equal number of Free Spins.

Now, during the bonus, the number of rows and pay-lines increases, so symbols of 5×5 or 6×6 in size can start appearing. As an added bonus here, before Free Spins start, there’s a special symbol chosen at random to get its value increased by 5x, so the highest-paying symbol is now worth 40x.

Different features are offered in different GigaBlox slots, but this is basically all you need to know regarding how the mechanics works.

Features in GigaBlox Slots

As just exemplified, Free Spins are usually the star feature in GigaBlox Slots, since that’s where the symbols land in the largest form of up to 6×6.

But, since Yggdrasil is one of the most innovative and out-of-the-box thinking developers, you should expect a variety of other features in GigaBlox slots. We’ll mention a few.

Respins

When you find a GigaBlox slot that does not offer Free Spins, rest assured that slot will offer Respins. The Respins are usually also triggered with Scatters, unless otherwise stated in a specific game, and allow for massive symbols to land, too.

Usually, you get 3 Respins, during which you’ll find Sticky symbols or Multipliers, and in most cases, when special symbols land, they reset the Respin count. That’s precisely what happens in MegaPearl GigaBlox slot.

Ladder Feature

Offered in 7 Gold GigaBlox and really worth mentioning, is this cool feature where, thanks to the GigaBlox engine, whenever you collect a certain number of symbols, you collect cash prizes.

In this particular slot, collecting 36 symbols, you get to receive a prize of up to 70,000x the stake! This could well be considered a feature similar to a jackpot bonus since so much is for grabs.

Giga Summon

Invented precisely for GigaBlox slots and available in most, if not all of them, Giga Summon is a feature that can trigger at random, on any paid or Free Spin.

When it triggers, the main character of the slot will summon a large GigaBlox Reel to appear on the next spin, with symbols sized at least 4×4!

Bonus Buy

While this feature is not exclusive to GigaBlox or Yggdrasil slots for that matter, it is almost always available in slots featuring this mechanics. Bonus Buy bets allow you to get faster access to the bonus rounds.

They can cost anywhere from 50x to 600x the stake, depending on the game, betting range and the bonus potential, so before you start playing a GigaBlox slot, make sure you inform yourself better about these feature-buy options.

How Is the Math Model in GigaBlox Slots?

Most of the GigaBlox slots offer high volatility, however, that’s not the rule. In fact, you’ll find plenty of slots featuring the mechanics which offer medium and even low volatility. The RTP is usually around 96.00%, although you’ll find a few titles with a lower RTP than that.

Almost all GigaBlox Slots offer a payout potential that’s bigger than €250,000, but most of them offer payouts twice that amount.

To give you an example, 90K Yeti GigaBlox, which is considered the GigaBlox title with the biggest Multipliers ever, offers a 90,000x the stake payout, and is highly volatile, but its RTP is only 95.5%.

7 Gold GigaBlox, on the other hand, even though offering the same volatility, offers a tad better RTP of 96.00%, but a tad lower potential, of up to 70,000x the stake.

We mentioned that there are such GigaBlox slots with low and medium volatility, such as MegaPear GigaBlox and Lucky Neko GigaBlox, but these also offer lower payout potential, compared to the highly volatile titles.

Pros

  • Engaging gameplay;
  • Powerful winning combos possible;
  • Loaded with additional features;
  • Usually, big payout potential offered.

Cons

  • Tricky math model;
  • Slots with quirky themes.

GigaBlox Mechanic FAQs

The GigaBlox mechanics offers giant symbols on synched reels, while Infinity Reels allows users to unlock new reels, added to the existing grid when a win occurs. They both offer great payouts and the average RTP, but they offer a different type of fun to players.

At the time of writing, so in the first quarter of 2023, we can find exactly 24 GigaBlox titles in Yggdrasil’s portfolio, delivered by the developer itself or its partner studios. The most recent release is Megapearl GigaBlox by ReelPlay.

Three years in and you already have 24 GigaBlox titles at your disposal, so it is safe to say that the developer launches GigaBlox slots pretty often.

This would be your choice, depending on your preferences. However, avid slots players have reported that Hades GigaBlox was really masterfully designed and interesting to play, and offers a bit more known theme compared to other releases. Sabres and Swords: Charge GigaBlox is also intriguing, so you might want to give it a try, as well as Monsters vs GigaBlox.

On average, the hit frequency is around 20-22%, regardless of the volatility of specific slots. In Lucky Neko, for instance, it’s 15.45%, while in Monsters Vs GigaBlox 38.38%, so do the math.

As a matter of fact, yes! Unless stated otherwise in the game, assume that any symbol from the paytable can appear sized 2×2 to 6×6, including Scatters and Wilds, which significantly improves your chances of winning on consecutive spins.
